Closed Captioning: Using Chrome Browser Live Caption

Closed Captioning: Using Chrome Browser Live Caption

Intended Audience: All Users

For learners who may wish to use closed-captioning, we recommend turning on Live Captioning within the Chrome browser (recommended for all Safety Made Simple training portals). This option is available to all users of Chrome and can be helpful for the deaf, for the hearing challenged, or even for users in loud or open environments. Read below on how to turn on this setting and how to utilize within Safety Made Simple courses.

Turn Chrome browser Live Caption on

  1. On your computer, open Chrome .
  2. At the top right, select More >  Settings.

3. At the bottom of the Settings page, select Accessibility.
4. Turn on Live Caption.

NOTE:  If you don't see Live Caption, please update your Chrome browser to the latest version.

Using Live Caption

The following image shows a Safety Made Simple course playing with the Live Caption running at the bottom of the screen. This provides readable captions of the audio that is playing in the course.

To toggle Live Caption on or off, you don't have to go to the Settings menu every time. Instead, click the media icon in the Chrome toolbar, and you'll find a toggle for "Live Caption."
