Course statuses

Intended Audience:  Administrators

Summary

The course status tells you if a course is available for managers to enroll users, for self-enrollment through the catalog.
These statuses are internal and appear only to users who create or manage content. Learners don't see these statuses in their portals.

Course statuses

The following statuses apply to courses in your portal. Only one status applies at any given time.

  • Draft
  • Published
  • Under Revision
  • Archived
  • Cataloged

Draft

The application assigns any new course a status of draft. Under this status, an admin or instructor can make changes to the course, including adding or removing content.

While in a draft status, the course is only visible to administrator or instructor users. You cannot enroll learners to a course in draft status.

Published

A published status indicates a course that is active within the portal. A published course lets admins, and managers with appropriate permissions, enroll users onto the course. Published courses also appear in the reporting tool within the portal.

Under Revision

The status under revision indicates that the course is published, and that an admin or instructor has started a new version of this course, which isn't available yet. You can keep enrolling learners to the course. If enabled for the catalog, the course remains available for learners to enroll themselves.

Note: Courses under revision which contain ILTs do not show upcoming sessions.

Archived

When you publish a new version of a course, the older course gets an archived status. When archived, admins and instructors can still view the archived course. You can run reports that include archived courses, showing the courses' enrollment history.

You can't enroll new learners on archived courses.

When you publish a new version of a course, you decide how to handle learners who are enrolled on the older version.

Cataloged

The status cataloged indicates the course is published and available through your internal course catalog. Registered users can enroll themselves on courses in the catalog.

Course filters

The Courses page can filter for a particular status.

  1. From primary navigation, select
  2. From the Filter Courses drop-down, select a Status.
  3. Select Apply to finish.

The application shows courses with only the selected status.
